The Ahold Bouldering Club
The Ahold Bouldering Club is a community that's open to anyone who is interested in bouldering - regardless if you are new or if you're flashing 7b+. Our goal is to have fun, make friends and improve our climbing skills. By joining this community you will get invited to our monthly climbing event as well as our Teams channel, so you meet your fellow ABCers. Hope to see you soon!
We go climbing every 3rd Thursday of the month at Beest Boulders - Het Lab. You can find more information on that location here: https://beestboulders.com/vestigingen/het-lab-amsterdam You can enroll in the event to let others know you're coming. Of course we also encourage impromptu climbing trips on other moments, so feel free to set up your own sessions too!

Becoming part of the ABC means that you get added to our chatgroup and will receive invites to the planned bouldering sessions. Joining the ABC is free and comes with no obligation to join any sessions! The costs for entry to the gym, hiring climbing shoes etc. are paid by each member individually on each separate occasion.

What is bouldering?
Things to know as a bouldering newbie
Bouldering is a climbing sport in which you try and climb 'boulders' without the help of ropes. A boulder can be an actual rock that is found outside, but it can also be an artificial rock wall in an indoor gym. Each boulder route has a distinct start and finish, and you rely on your technique and strength to complete the route by reaching the finish. There are different difficulty levels per route, so there's always something for everybody. For indoor bouldering, which is what we do with the ABC, you don't need more than free-fitting gym clothes! Bouldering shoes are highly recommend, but those can be rented for a small fee at the gym. Chalk, to keep your hands dry which improves your grip, is also nice but you can usually borrow some from your fellow ABCers. Our usual climbing gym is "Beest Boulders - Het Lab", near Amsterdam Sloterdijk station. Hi! My name is Jasper. I was born and raised in Breda, where I live with my wife, Evi. We enjoy watching films together, especially horror movies, but I also like getting off the couch to go bouldering or play bass guitar in my band. Albert Heijn has been a constant thread throughout my life. I started as a shelf stocker at the age of fifteen and eventually found my way to Zaandam. At work, I’m always focused on making things easier and more enjoyable in our stores by using technology in a smart way. I believe it’s important that everyone can work in a way that suits them, which is why I’m part of AD Pride. Through this, I hope to contribute to an inclusive work environment where everyone can truly be themselves. Hopefully, I’ll see you soon at one of our AD Pride events!
